J.W. Tweeds wants every visitor to be able to use this website and enjoy a visit to Main Street. This page explains what we have done, what we are still working on, and how to reach us if something is in your way.
We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA (opens in new tab). These are the guidelines referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act guidance published by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and a "skip to main content" link at the top. All photographs carry descriptive text for screen readers. Text and background colours meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio. Headings follow a logical order and each page has a single main heading. Moving content, including the scrolling reviews and rotating photos, can be paused with the "Pause motion" button in the corner of every page, and it stops automatically for visitors whose device is set to reduce motion. Links that open a new tab say so. Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content, and the site works on phones, tablets and desktops.
The interactive map is provided by Google and is outside our control; the full address and a plain-text link to directions are provided alongside it. Photographs of merchandise are described in general terms rather than item by item.
The store is wheelchair accessible at street level on Main Street. The women's floor is downstairs and the men's floor is upstairs; if the stairs are a barrier, our staff are glad to bring pieces down to you. Just ask, or call ahead and we will have things ready.
